Fibre Design Competition

Fashion Student Sponsorship 2008

Alpaca Canada Fibre and Product Committee sponsored a fourth-year fashion design student from Ryerson in Toronto.

Colleen Booth submitted sketches of a men's wear collection and yarn for five garments was supplied for knitting and felting.

The majority of the yarn was purchased from the Canadian Fibre Coop and consisted of 2 ply fingering weight 100% alpaca in cream, some of which was hand dyed a light yellowish green. Other 100% alpaca yarn was purchased from a BC farm in grey, fawn and hand dyed ochre. Lopi yarn was purchased from a farm in Ontario.

Colleen's men's wear alpaca garments were modeled in the Ryerson Fashion Show in April 2009 in Toronto (see runway photos) and one piece of her alpaca collection was showcased at Holt Renfrew in Toronto (see photo).

Alpaca Canada's logo was featured as a sponsor in the Ryerson Fashion Show Programme. The programme was distributed to attendees and fashion related enterprises in Canada; 5,000 programmes were printed.

Alpaca Canada has the right to use photos of these garments and to showcase for one year, the sponsored alpaca pieces at our industry events before they are given back to Colleen Booth.
