The jointly sponsored fourth annual Alpaca Canada/Canadian National Alpaca Sale & Futurity (AC/CNASF) National Fleece Show will be held in Edmonton, Alberta on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Northlands AgriCom in conjunction with the Alpaca Canada AGM and FarmFair International (A.L.P.A.C.A. Odyssey Show & Sale sponsored by Alpaca Livestock Producers And Cooperators Association).

 

This year, we are pleased to offer online registration and remittance.  The CNASF will provide cash prizes for champion winning fleeces. We invite and encourage your participation and look forward to an outstanding turnout of fleeces for our 2009 AC/CNASF National Fleece Show.

ENTRIES CLOSE: October 30, 2009  

ENTRY FEE: $35 per fleece (includes GST). Fleece show registration and payment MUST be received by October 30, 2009.  No late entries. No refunds after October 30, 2009.  Please use the online form Secure Entry Form listed above to register your fleeces.  Send payment via cheque (payable to Alpaca Canada Fleece Show) with copies of CLAA registration certificates to:

NOTE:  Fleeces that are also entered into the Lloydminster Alpaca Showcase Fleece Show (October 15 & 16, 2009) will be delivered to the AC/CNASF Fleece show if you enter both shows.  Please be sure to indicate this when entering, and complete both shows' *fleece identification forms*, and include them with your fleece.

FLEECE CHECK-IN AND PICK-UP

Fleeces brought to the show must be presented at Northlands AgriCom check in before 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009.  

 

Mailed/Couriered to Show

Mailed/couriered fleeces must arrive by Monday, November 3, 2009. Please ship your fleeces to:

Pick Up and Return

Fleeces may be picked up on Sunday, November 8, 2009. If you are not planning to attend the AGM, your fleece(s) will be returned to you COD after Sunday, November 8, 2009.

 

FLEECE SHOW GUIDELINES:

The 2009 AC/ CNASF National Fleece Show is an AC sanctioned fleece show and will follow the following Alpaca Canada Show System Rules for Fleece shows.

  1. Each fleece entry must be accompanied by a completed fleece identification form as provided by Show Management giving requested information. A copy of each entrants CLAA registration certificate must be received by at the Alpaca Canada office no later than October 30, 2009.

  2. The fleece shall be presented in clear plastic bags with the completed Fleece Identification form inserted in each fleece bag.

  3. Show Management will not be held responsible for loss or misplacement of the fleece although every possible effort will be made to ensure the security of the fleece.

  4. The exhibitor shall be solely responsible for claiming their fleeces at the end of the show, unless exhibitor has requested their fleece(s) to be returned COD.

  5. No fleece under 6 months of age is eligible for fleece competition.

  6. Fleece must be from the most recent shearing of the alpaca.

  7. Fleeces with less than 3 inches (76 mm) staple length shall be disqualified.

  8. Fleeces older than 14 months since shorn shall be disqualified.

  9. Maximum fleece length:

          1. AGE DIVISION (1) - There is no maximum staple length for this age

              category.

          2. ALL OTHER AGE DIVISIONS - maximum of 6.5 inches (165 mm.)  Any

              fleece that exceeds maximum staple length will be disqualified.  

 

FLEECE CLASS DIVISIONS:  

 

Fibre Type:

           (H) for Huacaya

           (S) for Suri  

 

Age Divisions (age of the alpaca when last shorn):

           (A) for 6 months to under 14 months

           (B) for 14 months to under 24 months

           (C) for 24 months to under 4 years of age

           (D) for 48 months to under 6 years of age

           (E) for 6 years of age and over  

 

Color Divisions (a current CLAA color chart can be used for color differentiation)

           (Wh) white

           (Li) includes beige, light fawn

           (Fa) includes medium fawn, dark fawn

           (Br) includes light, medium and dark brown

           (Bl) includes bay black and black

           (Gr) includes silver and rose grey

           (Mu) Multi includes alpacas exhibiting two or more colours over the blanket

                     area  

 

FLEECE SHOW PRIZES:

Ribbons will be awarded to 4th place in each class. Champion fleeces will be awarded according to the AC Fleece Show Rules and will receive ribbons and cash prizes with amounts based on total number of entries.  

 

FLEECE PREPARATION All fleece exhibits shall be the prime portion only which must conform to the same quality and length of the blanket area and shall be skirted of all short, stained and other fibre that does not conform to the same quality and length of the blanket area.  Once it is determined to be free of parasites it should be properly skirted and all short, stained and coarse fibre as well as heavy organic contamination should be removed and the fleece shall be presented with cut side displayed out for Huacayas and cut side in for Suris. The fleece shall not be washed. Poorly prepared fleeces shall be compromised at the discretion of the judge.
