Alpaca Canada proudly announces its First Annual Conference!  Slated for November 10 – 13, 2006 in Toronto, the four day conference will include the 1st Annual Alpaca Canada National Fleece Show, “Fibre Daze” - two days of exciting and informative fibre workshops and seminars, “Fibre Challenge” – alpaca yarn and garment competition, Canadian Fashion Design Competition, followed by a two-day intensive veterinarian and breeder Medicine and Management Course.  The AGMs for both Alpaca Canada and Llama Canada will be held on Saturday afternoon, followed by a Saturday evening banquet and the CLAA Annual General Meeting.

Alpaca Canada ’s AGM and Fibre Committees have been working hard to make this event one to remember. We anticipate strong western representation, thereby providing the first real face-to-face meeting and discussion opportunity between Eastern and Western Canadian camelid breeders!

A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at discount rates at the host hotel ‘The Holiday Inn on King’ in downtown Toronto , and at the nearby Comfort Inn & Suites. This event falls on the last weekend of The Toronto Royal Winter Fair, and a tour will be available for those interested in attending this historic event.  The Conference is being held in downtown Toronto close to the entertainment district and within easy walking distance of many sites, including the CN Tower, Hockey Hall of Fame and much, much more!

Please Book soon to take advantage of these special rates.  Make sure to mention you are coming for the Alpaca Canada Conference by using the AC Booking Code - APCND

 Fibre Challenge
Planning is currently underway to establish an Annual Alpaca Fibre Design Competition for Canadian textile students.  Given the location of the 1st AGM in Eastern Canada , we are attempting to work closely with Ryerson University Fashion Design Department for the initial competition.  The Committee anticipates three design categories:  Day Wear, Outer Wear and Couture.  First and second-place winners will be chosen from each of the three categories.  From the six winning designs, three will be chosen for production (not necessarily the top three).  Several farms have indicated their willingness to donate tanned alpaca hides for the production component, and mills across Canada are being contacted to request donated product (e.g. fabric, yarn, etc.).  An annual trophy (Canadian Alpaca Fibre Design Competition) will be awarded for the top design.
We anticipate showcasing the winning creations at the AGM banquet on Saturday evening.

1st Annual Alpaca Canada National Fleece Show
To be Judged by Cathy Merkley
Get those fleeces prepped and posted for the Friday, 10 November 2006 show.  Winning fleeces will be displayed at the banquet on Saturday evening.  Cash prizes will be offered.
For further information, contact Catherine Simpson.
